During 13th – 15th November 2008, the second Romanian-Bulgarian workshop regarding the opportunity for extending the marine protected area 2 Mai – Vama Veche found at the Romanian littoral into the Bulgarian ones, from the Dobrich region

The meeting makes subject of one of the activity included in the project „Area 2 Mai – Durankulak – Conservation of marine biodiversity and public awarenes raising”, which was implemented during this year by the Mare Nostrum NGO, in partnership with the National Institute for Marine Research and Development „Grigore Antipa” (NIMRD) (Constanta/Romania) and Bulgarian Biodiversity Fund (BBF) (from Bulgaria).
The meeting was attended by more then 20 guests, representatives of Mare Nostrum, NIMRD and BBF. On behalf Bulgaria, researchers from Oceanographic Institute and same NGOs from Varna (BSPB/BirdLife, Marine Club „Friend of the Sea”), teachers and pupils for the partner schools took part.
Although there were sent invitation, the Ministry of Environment from Bulgaria did not send any representative.

Iron Curtain turns Green Belt in the Balkans

South-Eastern European partners of the European Green Belt initiative focus
on transboundary cooperation

Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, 19-22 October 2008 (IUCN) – The second meeting of the South-Eastern European partners of the European Green Belt reconfirmed that the Green Belt initiative holds a unique position, focusing on transboundary cooperation in nature conservation and regional development along the former Iron Curtain. „Mapping Synergies – Branding Ideas“- the motto of the meeting brought together about 50 participants from the countries along the South-Eastern European Green Belt. In addition to long-term partners, new participants from several countries from the region joined the initiative.The meeting focused on the Green Belt in South-Eastern Europe, including sharing experience on the last five years of the initiative’s existence and on the numerous activities carried out while paying special attention to the future development of the initiative.
